They're meant to be detachable. They plug in. You can either configure them with a breadboard on top and use them forever or as a base for building and soldering in a given circuit.

I just received a Adafruit Protoshield (for Duemilanova), am about to assemble it, and am curious: are these meant to be detachable? Or, are they "permanently" soldered on, to be left on the arduino forever? Thanks much for any advice, and sorry if this is a silly question.

I'm also living in Paris (France) and tinkering around with Arduinos - and frustrated that I apparently have to order all material by mail from Germany with horrendous fees for the French Postal service... so would be interested to know where one could get Arduino accessories in France, any hint welcome!

Hi, I'm another Brit in France, who just started playing with Arduino after attending Lift France 09 in Marseille. I got mine from www.lextronic.fr who have reasonable prices and delivery charges, along with OK delivery times. I also got some BlinkM smartLEDs for fun.

I really like these as they seem to me to put the fun back into playing with electronics/software by taking care of the hard drudgy things and letting you focus on the fun stuff :-)

I am using reed relays connected directly to the IO pins: elexp.com #22RD5.
I recommend them as a source for electronics components of all kinds. Also see apexelectronic.com. I have shell scripts to control up to 4 Diecimilas under linux. I think they could be easily modified for OSX. See http://user.cavenet.com. Requires SimpleMessageSystem code on the Diecimila, from the archives at arduino.cc or from my website. Maximum flexibility and power. 100 AD readings (x6 chans) in under 40 secs. Data is scaled to mV and formatted for import to most spreadsheets. GUI via Xdialog--does OSX have a similar scriptable command?

Hi,

I'm based just outside of Paris, and have also just got in to playing around with the Arduino, and also bought the "Making Things Talk" book.

Are you in France? If so, where do you suggest buying parts (components and ICs) from?

Thanks

Phil
